My heart is over flowing as I type this. Lissa has been a friend of mine for the past 5 years. What started as a photographer/model photoshoot turned into a beautiful frienship that I now consider Lissa, family. I am truly blessed to be her friend. Lissa a force to be reconned with and an inspiration to so many.
Not long after our friendship started she confided in me about a sexual assault she endured over a 10 day period in Romania by her ballet director. As a survivor myself my heart nearly stopped for her. But to know Lissa is to know what a brave powerhouse she is. To say this hasn’t stopped her from following her passions and make a huge impact on others is an understatment. Not only is her mantra, “Be BRAVE” it is her life’s mission to prove all of us can be.
She is a professional ballerina, a teacher, an advocate, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend, and a survivor. The many hats she wears doesn’t slow her down when its comes to inspiring. She does that with her eyes closed walking in pointe shoes.
I asked some of her students what they thought, and here is what they had to say about their teacher:
“Miss Lissa is an inspirational role model because she is always there for you and has the best words of wisdom to share. She pushes you to be your absolute best and teaches you to never doubt yourself. She is strong, beautiful, brave, and she inspires me everyday.”-Claire
“Even with all she has been through, she does everything with her heart and soul. And she does it joyfully, a true inspiration.” Audrey
“Miss Lissa has taught me to never give up on my dreams. Always stay strong, and for that I beyond grateful.” Iona
“Miss Lissa is an inspirational role model because she is always there for us. She loves us for who we are. Teaching us to never doubt ourselves. Her soul is fierce, her heart is brave, and her mind is strong.”- Kenzie
“Lissa has the amazing ability to overcome all obstacles and to continue pressing forward, undaunted by lies and deceit. She never wavers from her goals and stands like a rock on her beliefs.” Phil Curtis, husband
Lissa has taken her fight and founded the Be BRAVE Gala in 2016 as a way to give back to the community and to encourage other survivors to be brave in their own circumstances. She has raised over $60,00 for CCCNH, HAVEN and SHARPP, programs that assist survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
This is who Lissa is, A fighter with a heart of gold. Whether it be raising money for charity, opening a ballet company for survivors, being an amazing role model to her students, or just being Lissa- I think we can all agree she is an inspirational role model to us all.
