Music has always been a way for me to not only express myself but get me through adversities, trauma, and my Breast Cancer diagnosis. From playing my favorite song and car dancing, to singing in the shower, and even on big stages, music has been therapy for my in many ways.
Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credential professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.
Music acts as a distractor, focusing the attention away from negative stimuli to something pleasant and encouraging. Music has the ability to alter breathing and heart rate. It also occupies the mind with something familiar and soothing. Music causes the brain to releases dopamine, a feel good chemical.
