Whole Foods??????

There have been many questions asked about the term “Whole Foods” and the correlation to a Vegetarian or Vegan Diet. Eating a whole food diet does not mean you have to abstain from meat or fish although in my opinion most of us should. My choice is a whole food plant blased diet. So here is what the lifestyle entails.

A whole food, plant-based diet is one that centers on whole, unrefined, and unprocessed foods. It’s made up of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds.

By basing your diet around plant-based whole foods, you are automatically upping your fiber intake, as fiber is only found in plant-based foods, you are also increasing the nutritional content of your diet, as whole foods are packed with vitamins, minerals and goodness!

The focus is whole, minimally processed foods.

  • Avoid animal products.
  • Focuse on plants, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts, which should make up the majority of what you eat.
  • Exclude refined foods, like added sugars, white flour and processed oils.
  • Pay special attention to food quality, promoting locally sourced, organic food whenever possible.
